Europe on a budget: Five of the best affordable holiday locations

Travelling is expensive, but with summer looming it’s time to start hunting for your next adventure.

There are plenty of great locations in Europe to enjoy the sun, catch a tan, and yet still save some precious pennies.

Here, Travel News Blitz’s Sam Condy breaks down five of the best affordable holiday spots in Europe.

Marmaris, Turkey

Nestled on Turkey's Turquoise Coast, Marmaris is widely regarded as one of Europe's prime locations for those not looking to break the bank.

Lined with family-friendly beaches, there are a wealth of water-based activities to keep you from growing bored during a stay in Marmaris.

Make sure you check out the boat trips on offer to Daylan’s mud baths and the Iztuzu beach - a well-known turtle nesting site that offers some breathtaking views.

The Algarve, Portugal

Ranking third on 2024's Post Office Travel Money Family Holiday Report, The Algarve is one of Europe's most popular vacation destinations.

Lined with holidaymakers during the summer months, it’s worth booking in advance to make sure you don’t miss out on the best value deals.

If you do decide to book a trip to the Portuguese coastal destination, you mustn’t miss the Cabo de São Vicente lighthouse, the clifftop building is known for its stunning red roof, and fantastic views of the coastline.

Prague, Czech Republic

The European city is one of the most spectacular cities on the continent and can be experienced for a highly reasonable price.

Prague Castle is a must-visit during a stay here, and the Old Town is home to some of the oldest pubs in all of Europe.

Staying outside of the Old Town will save you some much-needed cash to enjoy many of the incredible tourist attractions on offer.

Costa del Sol, Spain

Spain’s best-known Costa offers a wealth of fantastic budget-friendly holiday opportunities.

Veering away from the popular Marbella and Estepona resorts and instead choosing to stay in Torremolinos is much kinder on the bank account, while still filled with plenty to do during a beachfront getaway.

Paphos, Cyprus

Paphos, on Cyprus’s southwestern coast, is a sun-soaked resort town centred around a picturesque harbour and historic castle.

Unlike the nearby Limassol, it’s easy to explore without a car, thanks to affordable taxis and hotel transfers.

The Paphos Archaeological Park, home to some incredible Roman mosaics, is also nearby and inexpensive to visit.

Don’t miss a boat trip to the breathtaking Blue Lagoon, where its crystal clear waters will make you wish you had booked to stay for longer.

Summary

With the cost of living continuing to rise, it’s becoming increasingly necessary to take a more measured approach to travelling.

However, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out, there are plenty of fantastic holiday destinations scattered throughout Europe that still offer everything you could ask for during a summer getaway.
